More about PGA National
The jewels of PGA National are its five, 18-hole championship golf courses. It prides itself with a long history of golf tournaments such as the Honda Classic, 1983 Ryders Cup, 1987 PGA Championship, and PGA Senior’s Championship from 1982-2000. The Champion Golf Course hailed as one of the best courses in Florida, was initially designed by Tom and George Fazio and had a $4 Million make-over in 2002 redesigned by Jack Nicklaus. The Bear Trap, one of the toughest 3-hole stretches, is located at The Champion Golf Course and was named after Jack Nicklaus who is also well-known as the Golden Bear. The Squire Golf Course is also one of the most well-known golf courses in Florida. It was also designed by Tom Fazio and was named after Gene Sarazen, the first winner of the professional Grand Slam. The Fazio, originally called The Haig, is the first of the five golf courses to open in 1980 and was initially named after Walter Hagen, a five-time PGA Champion. The Palmer Golf Course was named after its designer, Arnold Palmer, and The Estates Golf Courses was designed by Karl Litten. Both offer easier courses compared to the other three.
